Medical Assistant

This curriculum trains the student to assist the physician in medical procedures in the physician's office, to maintain medical records, and to perform clerical duties.  The required externship provides practical experience in a medical environment.  In order to enroll in this program, a prospective student must possess a high school diploma or equivalent certification. 

To successfully complete this training, the student must have an overall GPA of 2.0 and complete seventy (67.5) academic credit hours in satisfactory progress.  Upon successful completion of this program, the graduate is awarded a diploma in Medical Assistant.  She/he is not required but is strongly encouraged to take the certification test from the National Healthcare Association (NHA) or American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).  If she/he passes this test, she/he becomes a (Nationally) Certified in the discipline tested in.
